This is the first study in a series of Portraits that were inspired by photos I saw of prisoners in a State Penitentiary. The photos were taken between 1915 - 1937. I was fascinated by the prisoners' faces, particularly their eyes. They remain nameless - forgotten. I knew I had to capture them in paint. This was a quick study, completed over a period of 3 hours in oils on a 12 x 16ins. canvas.
